ReDefine Your Life

Posted by on in ReDefine Your Life

So often we get caught up in striving for our goals. We think taking time to play is frivolous and wasteful. This is a misconception.

Taking time for play was a huge challenge for me. I used to spend leisure time worrying about other things I should be accomplishing with those hours.

One day I realized I was becoming very one-dimensional. All I could talk about was business. Small talk eluded me. Although I had always loved writing and art, I had strayed far from those pleasurable pursuits.

I started taking time (without guilt) to relax and play. I joined a walking group to get my exercise and socialize at the same time. I went to events that had nothing to do with networking. I joined my local museum. My enjoyment of life expanded exponentially and to my surprise, I was still able to accomplish the same amount of work!

I challenge you today to do one fun thing. Next week, do another. Continue to try new, relaxing adventures and expand your joy in life!

b2ap3_thumbnail_Woman_Kickboxing.pngMany women hold back from their dreams due to fear. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of what others will say when they pursue their goals, and fear of the unknown keep too many women from the lives they truly deserve.

Here are some tips to bust through fear and reach your dreams.

Think objectively. Suppose a good friend was in your situation? What advice would you give her? Thinking of someone else will make you more objective. Now...take your own advice.  If someone else can make your suggested changes, so can you.

What’s the worst that can happen? Write down the worst-case scenarios for what can happen as you reach your goals? Then list solutions to those issues.

This will do two things:

      1.    It will show you that you have much less to fear than you thought you did.

      2.    It will prepare you for any problems that may arise on your journey. A prepared woman has nothing to fear.

Focus on the positive. List the positive ways your life will change as you reach your goals. Keep your list where you will see it every day. You can only concentrate on one thing at a time. When you are thinking about the wonderful ways your life will expand, you are pushing fear aside.

So give fear a well-deserved kick in the ass and reach your dreams today!

b2ap3_thumbnail_Woman_Superhero.jpgWe all deserve fabulous lives, but how do we achieve one?

Here are top ten shifts in perspective that can help you move your life to the next level. These steps will assist you in breaking through your personal glass ceiling to create the life you really want.

1. Give yourself permission to dream. You probably had no problem dreaming as a kid. What happened to your ability to imagine and dream about what you want and who you want to be? When was the last time you allowed yourself to daydream?

2. Stop looking outside yourself for happiness. Look inside. Increase your self-awareness. Get curious about who you are at the core. Cultivate and nurture a relationship with yourself.

3. Cover the basics. Take the time to address your personal needs. How can you focus on thriving in your life if you are in survival mode? Set up that meeting with a financial advisor, get your space organized, clean up the details that are wasting your energy.

4. Embrace your past and move on. Shift from “why it happened” to what I want to do about it now. Asking “why” is important so you will not repeat the action, but asking how I want to proceed now can be much more powerful and produce forward movement.

5. Remember that you are not alone. It is easy to feel overwhelmed with life. Seek support from trusted friends and family or from a professional advisor. They might help you figure about some things that are puzzling you.
